We are happy to visit Edie live this year as it is The UK’s only event for energy, sustainability and resource efficiency professionals. Same with last year, this year they attracted quite many innovators to share their experience and demonstrate their idea. It is certainly a very great chance to share ideas with people from various industries and inspire each other.
There are 4 theatres feature the talk around energy, innovation, circular economy and sustainability. Two-full-day agenda hosting the experts in the areas.
It is not always easy to understand the situation of other industry. For example, IKEA showed their experience in the transition to a more circular practice. The sustainability transition contains a lot of work and frustration. Though they always give mass support to their transition projects, it did not work well at the beginning. Their experience illustrates the difficulty in communication with the customers. The customers may not understand the new practice. Besides, the workable solution has to be linked with the business.
From another perspective, the engagement of employees is also the key to the success of the sustainability transition. The Bank of England makes the senior employees gear all the employees. This ended up lead “reusing” a norm in their office. Another example can be seen in Tesco. They educate the employees working in the bakery sectors. After the employees in the bakery have an awareness of energy use, they tend to transition their daily routine into a more energy efficient one.
All the firms have their own culture. The example can help us to be inspired when we are making our solution.
